Sharp announces the Sharp Aquos R3 with an unusual dual notch

Last year, Sharp launched the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact which became the world’s first smartphone with a dual notch. No matter how unusual the dual-notch design looks like, the company is not going to leave this design choice anytime soon as it has now launched the Sharp Aquos R3 with almost the same design.

Starting things off with the most noticeable thing in the device, the Sharp Aquos R3 sports a 6.2-inch Pro IGZO display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate making it ideal for gaming.

As mentioned earlier, there are two different notches. The top notch houses the 16.3MP front camera while the bottom notch has the physical fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button.

Speaking of cameras, we get a dual rear camera setup (12.2MP, f/1.7, 78-degree FOV + 20MP, f/2.4, 125-degree FOV). Both the front and the rear cameras feature AI capabilities like AI Live Story and AI Live Shutter.

Under the hood, the device is powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which is coupled with an ample 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with scope for further expansion with the help of an external SD card.

As far as the battery of the device is concerned, we get a 3,200 mAh battery which comes with support for 11W Qi wireless charging.

As mentioned earlier, there are two different notches. The top notch houses the 16.3MP front camera while the bottom notch has the physical fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button.

As of now, there is no word on the official pricing and the release date of the device, but we are sure to receive further intel on the same in the coming days.
