Huawei to launch a new smartphone with zoom camera and display on the back

Published

on

Huawei is reportedly working on launching a new smartphone with a zoom camera and a dual display. The report has come to Android Updated courtesy of Letsgodigital.

The rear of the P30 is characterized by a new camera system, consisting of three vertically placed cameras. One of these cameras has a periscopic lens, allowing an exceptionally large optical zoom range to be achieved. This Huawei phone is probably equipped with 10x optical zoom, comparable to the innovative zoom technology that Oppo demonstrated at MWC 2019 last month.

A recently published design patent shows that Huawei is considering developing a mobile phone with a zoom camera. In addition to a periscopic camera lens, this smartphone has another special feature: an extra display is placed directly under the triple camera system.

The design patent was filed on November 28, 2018, by law firm Boehmert & Boehmert from Berlin, Germany. The patent was applied for on behalf of Huawei Technologies and was published on 28 February 2019 by the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) and the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office), with which this patent enjoys worldwide protection.

The front looks a lot like the expected Huawei P30, although the notch of the patented model is further reduced. It is an almost full-screen design, with a very small recess made for a sensor at the top, in the middle, probably a Time-of-Flight sensor for 3D face recognition. This sensor is placed halfway in the screen edge so that the notch can be kept very minimal.

The back of this Huawei phone houses a triple camera. The third lens differs from the other two lenses, the square-shaped lens indicates that Huawei wants to use the same periscopic camera system as with the P30. With this model, however, the cameras are positioned horizontally, rather than vertically. To the left of the three cameras are a flash and a laser autofocus system.

The most remarkable thing about this mobile phone is the extra screen. An almost square screen is placed directly below the triple camera. An ideal display for making selfies. This makes it possible to take high-quality portrait photos with the advanced camera system on the back. Quite cleverly conceived by the engineers at Huawei.

A display on the back of a smartphone is not entirely new. For example, the Vivo NEX Dual Display was released athuawei upcoming smartphone with a dual display and a zoom camera patent the end of last year, this device is also equipped with a second display. With this model, however, it was decided not to place a front camera at all on the front in order to create a full-screen design.

The Vivo phone is also equipped with face recognition, but this goes through the display on the back. Judging by the notch, Huawei seems to choose to maintain the face recognition function at the front.

The new Mate 30 smartphones will be introduced in the second half of the year. It is possible that Huawei intends to apply the patented design for its new Mate devices. There is a good chance that the Chinese manufacturer will release a Huawei phone with a slider camera before that time.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too.Last year, ZTE launched the ZTE Axon M which boasted of a dual display. A little while ago, the company launched the ZTE Axon 10 Pro flagship.

The company is now all geared up to launch yet another amazing smartphone dubbed the ZTE Axon S.

As per the recently leaked renders (courtesy of Trending Leaks), the ZTE Axon S will sport a triple rear camera setup which will interestingly pop out horizontally.

Looking at the renders, we can clearly see that the device will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, there would be a dual front camera which will be integrated into the same protruding mechanism.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too

The sliding mechanism does not appear to be motorized and will most certainly be manual which makes sense.

As of now, there is no word on the official specifications of the device, but the report further mentions that we will get a 48MP primary sensor and a 19MP secondary sensor. The third one will most possibly be a ToF sensor.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too.

Though the specifications of the device are not clear as of now, we can expect the ZTE Axon S to be powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which will be coupled with at least 8GB of RAM (given the company’s history).

As of now, this is all we know about the device, but we are sure to receive further intel on the same in the coming days.
