You can wear a bendable phone from Samsung as a watch on your wrist

Published

Samsung is reportedly working on launching a new foldable smartphone that you can wear as a watch.

The report has come to Android Updated courtesy of Letsgodigital.

Samsung is expected to release several models in the coming years. In addition to the above models, both of which unfold into a tablet size screen, foldable clamshell phones are also being developed. Motorola will probably be the first manufacturer to release a folding phone in the form of a new RAZR smartphone.

We published yesterday about a special alternative from Samsung. This foldable Samsung phone namely had a clamshell design with the display on the outside when the device is folded. Have we then had all model variants? No, it is expected that bendable phone models will also be introduced in the long term, these are so flexible that the entire phone can change shape.

This creates the possibility to use a large telephone screen when you want to use the device intensively. Are you on your way? Then you simply bend the phone around your wrist. It can therefore also directly offer an alternative to the smartwatch. Various market reports show that the wearable market is on the rise and will continue to grow in the coming years.

However, the smartwatch has one major disadvantage, the size of the display. The smartwatch must, after all, continue to fit around your wrist and also feel comfortable. Although manufacturers are working to incorporate more functions into the watch band, it would, of course, be ideal if you could easily bend the mobile device into a fully-fledged smartphone.

Halfway through last year, Samsung Electronics filed a patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) for a ‘Shape-retaining structure of the electronic device and electronic device including same’. The patent was published on March 7, 2019.

The patent describes a mobile phone with a flexible display. The flexible Samsung phone can bend in one direction and curls up, as it were. This makes it possible to wear a flexible telephone on your wrist. When the bendable smartphone is fully opened, you have an elongated display at your disposal. Due to the narrow shape, the phone remains easy to operate with one hand. At the top and bottom, we see a fairly wide edge, in which all sensors are processed.

Due to the flexible design, the device will tend to automatically roll up again. To prevent this, you can lock this Samsung bendable phone, for this, a narrow slider has been fitted on the back that you can operate with your index finger. When the user pushes it down, the smartphone can be used in the unfolded position, and therefore no longer automatically fold back to the curved position.

In addition, a magnet is placed at both ends of the telephone, which attract each other when the flexible telephone is rolled up. This way, the mobile device stays nicely on your wrist and cannot just lose weight. A camera is visible to the left of the sliding mechanism. The patent description does not elaborate on the functionality of the camera system. The SIM card can be inserted on the top and the bottom offers space for a connection to charge the device.

The back of the Samsung smartphone is provided with an elastic plate that bends flexibly in the desired direction. Various materials can be used for this, including stainless steel material. Furthermore, the device has a lot of small links that make it possible to bend. These are designed in such a way that the outside feels smooth, this will improve the wearing comfort, according to the patent description.

To develop a roll-up telephone as Samsung has patented, many hardware components will have to be flexible. Consider the battery, the circuit board, and the antenna. Much of this technology is now available.

Yet the question remains how such a flexible device will be experienced in practice. Although it looks super futuristic of course, wearing comfort can sometimes become the bottleneck. If it does not feel comfortable around the wrist, the device will also be used considerably less, after which it will soon end up in the back of the cabinet. It is not only the shape that must be taken into account, but the weight is also important.

Lenovo already showed in 2016 a concept of a flexible phone that you can bend around your wrist. We have heard little more about this smartphone afterward. However, there is another company that announced the same year a stylish bendable phone that you can wear on your wrist, the Chinese start-up Moxi Group. There was, however, one but this model, although the promotional photos would have you believe otherwise, the display was only black and white. A color variant would be planned for 2018, but we have not heard of this until now.

Nevertheless, there is a good chance that several manufacturers will develop a flexible device. When we can expect the first copies is still unclear. We will probably first see other variations of the foldable phone, including a clamshell design.

Samsung is reportedly working on launching a new smart TV dubbed the Samsung Q-Bix which will feature native Bixby assistant support. The report has come to Android Updated courtesy of Letsgodigital.

samsung q bix tv full specifications

In the home country of Korea, Samsung has applied for a trademark for Q BIX. The trademark was published by KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) on 13 March 2019. The trademark is categorized as Class 9 with the description; ‘audio speakers with artificial intelligence; televisions’.

The letter ‘Q’ seems to refer to QLED. Samsung also uses the names Q Picture, Q Style and Q Smart to emphasize the different functions of the TV. BIX is a logical abbreviation for Bixby, the description also agrees with this.

Bixby 3.0 has been discussed for some time. This updated speech assistant will be available at the time of the introduction of the Galaxy Fold, the folding smartphone will be launched at the end of April. It is possible that the name Samsung Q BIX will be introduced when this updated version also becomes available for QLED TVs. The new models are expected at the IFA 2019 in early September.

Samsung has filed the patent for Samsung Smart Things Air which is going to be a new addition to the Smart Things lineup.

The report has come to Android Updated courtesy of Letsgodigital.

On March 15, 2019, Samsung Electronics filed a trademark application for SmartThings Air with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). The trademark was filed in Madrid, Spain by intermediary Abril Abogados. This company has often acted in the name of Samsung, so earlier this year the trademark was applied for Neuro Game Booster.

The application is classified as Class 9/42, with a very detailed description; ‘Software for operating home automation systems, including lighting, heating, air conditioning, alarm, and other safety equipment. Electric sensors for measuring the air quality for monitoring, control, and automation of the environment. Sensors for detecting air quality in the form of volatile gases, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, pollen or toxins in the air. Sensors for detecting the temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, oxygen, and nitrogen concentration in the air. Software for displaying the data received from the air quality sensors.”

In the (near) future, this will probably make it possible to measure the air quality in your immediate environment with Samsung mobile devices, such as a smartphone, tablet or smartwatch. Are you in a polluted area? Then you will automatically receive an alert so that you can never be unexpectedly attacked by carbon monoxide poisoning or other gases that can endanger your health. Something you regularly hear about in the news.

Although Samsung already offers various devices and solutions to monitor air quality, it is, of course, unique if this is also possible via your smartphone. For example, it no longer matters in which environment you are, the air quality is always measured and checked for you automatically, and you immediately receive a signal in the event of danger.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too.Last year, ZTE launched the ZTE Axon M which boasted of a dual display. A little while ago, the company launched the ZTE Axon 10 Pro flagship.

The company is now all geared up to launch yet another amazing smartphone dubbed the ZTE Axon S.

As per the recently leaked renders (courtesy of Trending Leaks), the ZTE Axon S will sport a triple rear camera setup which will interestingly pop out horizontally.

Looking at the renders, we can clearly see that the device will feature an under-display fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, there would be a dual front camera which will be integrated into the same protruding mechanism.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too

The sliding mechanism does not appear to be motorized and will most certainly be manual which makes sense.

As of now, there is no word on the official specifications of the device, but the report further mentions that we will get a 48MP primary sensor and a 19MP secondary sensor. The third one will most possibly be a ToF sensor.

The device will feature a USB Type-C charging port and 5G will be supported too.

Though the specifications of the device are not clear as of now, we can expect the ZTE Axon S to be powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset which will be coupled with at least 8GB of RAM (given the company’s history).

As of now, this is all we know about the device, but we are sure to receive further intel on the same in the coming days.
