Xiaomi Poco F1: #Masterofspeed?

xiaomi poco f1 specifications

In the launch event, the company focused on the essential elements of the flagship smartphones of 2018 and the added functionalities such as the S-Pen and the Bixby assistant which add more value to any flagship. The problem, as per the speech, lies in the price as most of the modern flagships touch the $1000 mark which inevitably limits the potential customers. Pocophone is Xiaomi’s take on ending this trend as the Poco F1 provides all the features mentioned above at an ultra-affordable price.

xiaomi poco f1 jack of all trades

The Poco F1, as claimed by the company officials, is not a jack-of-all-trades and focuses on innovations that truly matter.

This certainly means that the company is shying away from the mere marketing gimmicks a lot of smartphone manufacturers adopt in order to woo the customers. Instead, we get a solid smartphone which is focused on sheer performance.

Talking about the performance, the first thing which comes to anyone’s mind is the processor and there is no denying the fact that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset is the current best.

The processor is clocked at 2.8GHz and sports the second generation 10nm FinFET process. Coupled with the chipset is an Adreno 630 GPU.

The Xiaomi Poco F1 has constantly been touted as a Master of Speed. The presence of the current flagship SD845 chipset along with an ample 8GB of RAM certainly justify the hashtag. On top of that, the device has scored a significant 291,302 in AnTuTu benchmark scores.

To keep things running smoothly, the Xiaomi Poco F1 makes use of a Liquid Cool Technology which is essentially a water cooling technology to prevent the device from overheating and, eventually, lagging as it ensures 300% faster heat dissipation when compared to a device which is not making use of a liquid cooling mechanism.

Moving on the battery, we get a massive 4,000 mAh battery which is capable of quick charging (the quick charger is included in the box). The battery is 30% higher when compared with the likes of smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S9. The battery, as claimed by the company, provides for 8 hours of gaming, 146 hours of music playback, 16 hours of media consumption, and more than 30 hours of calling time. The standby time is also being touted to be as much as 15 days. Of course, this is all on papers and we will have to test the Poco F1 in real time to see whether the claims hold out to be true or not.

The Xiaomi Poco F1 is also the first Android smartphone launched in India which has support for 4G+ which ensures a faster network and better coverage.

The developers of the Poco F1 were bold enough to test the gaming performance of the device right alongside the iPhone X. Surprisingly enough, the device beat the iPhone X in terms of frame rate, temperature, and battery consumption.

Moving to the design, the Xiaomi Poco F1 sports a hard-coated polycarbonate body at the rear which features a reinforced internal frame structure of sorts.

At the bottom, we get a USB Type-C port which supports Quick charge 3.0. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top (there was a moment of laughter when this was announced) which is a pretty good thing considering how the modern day flagships are missing out on a standard headphone jack.

The 6.18-inch display has a notch at the top which is fairly wide when compared with the likes of the recently unveiled smartphones like the Oppo F9 lineup and the Vivo V11 Pro. Notch lovers won’t mind a setup of such sorts and for those who do not like the notches, the top navigation bar can blend in with the notch to give the device an 18:9’ish look.

There is a considerable amount of chin at the bottom. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and features a 1500:1 contrast ratio.

To add to the amazing features, the Xiaomi Poco F1 features infrared facial unlock which unlocks the device securely even in low-light conditions.

The company showed a short clip wherein it demonstrated as to how secure the infrared unlock is. Someone cannot fake your face using a photo or another smartphone.

Moving to the media, the Xiaomi Poco F1 features dual-firing speakers at the front with Dirac HD Sound and Dual Smart PA. The earpiece acts as the secondary speaker.

There are three color variants of the device – Graphite Black, Steel Blue, and Rosso Red.

Moving to the OS, Xiaomi has introduced a new MIUI for Poco which focuses entirely on performance. The prime highlights of the new MIUI are a Poco launcher, Turbocharged Engine which makes the processes run buttery-smooth, and fast updates.

The Poco Launcher brings about a bunch of customizations like a bottom-placed search bar, automatically grouped apps in the app drawer, group icons by color which can be pretty helpful to sort the apps, hidden app icons, third-party icons support.

As a matter of fact, the Poco Launcher is going to be available for everyone come August 29 on the Google Play Store.

Considering the specifications and the features the device offers, it is a steal at this price point. The 6GB/128GB variant of the Xiaomi Poco F1 would cost you a bit more, INR 23,999 to be exact. The 8GB/128GB variant would cost you INR 28,999.

There is also a special Armoured Edition which is priced at INR 29,999.
