Instagram for Android has recently got a new update. After the update (V220.127.116.11.82), if a friend of yours is online, a green dot will show up on in the bottom right corner of their profile pictures.
You will notice the dot both in Instagram Direct as well as your friend list whenever you share a post from the feed.
Today we’re making it easier to connect with friends on Instagram by showing you when they’re available to chat.
When your friends are active on Instagram, you’ll see a green dot next to their profile picture in various spaces within the app, including the Direct inbox and your friend list when you share a post from feed. You will only see status for friends who follow you or people who you have talked to in Direct. You can easily hide your own status and turn off the ability to see when your friends are active in your settings.
This is not essentially a new feature as Facebook has always had it in all of the apps including the Messenger. Finally, the developers of Instagram decided to push it to Instagram as well. You can, of course, turn the feature off by going to the settings and turn off the Show Activity Statusoption.
Instagram has been pushing a lot of productive features lately. After the update (V18.104.22.168.83), the app will let you know when you are caught up with all the posts from the last two days whenever you are scrolling your timeline. When you are totally up to date, the app will show you a notification which would read “You’re all caught up”.
As per the Instagram’s official blog, this new feature will help you stay updated.
