Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite review: No bezels this time

MWC, the mecca of smartphones gave us a lot of amazing smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S9 lineup. While the prime focus of the world was on the likes of the big guns, companies like Asus left no stone unturned to show off their own smartphones. The Asus Zenfone 5 lineup deserves an equal appreciation and mention.

Asus announced two new phones in the MWC 2018: The Asus Zenfone 5 and the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite.

Both of the smartphones boast of some amazing specifications and features, the near bezel-less display being at the top of them.

The Asus Zenfone 5 has a 6.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display with just a small notch at the top making it look almost similar to the Essential Phone (gen-1). The notch at the top makes space for the earpiece and the front camera. The top device of the Zenfone 5 chain is the Zenfone 5Z which is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM. There is a 3,300 mAh battery which has support for Quick Charge 3.0.

2018 is the year of Artificial Intelligence and Asus is proudly boasting its AI technology used in the rear dual camera system that can automatically detect the background scene and adjust the imagery accordingly.

The AI engine, on top of providing excellent photography, also provides a list of other useful features like automatically increasing or decreasing the call volume and media volume according to the background noise. It even monitors your charging habits and adjusts the battery drainage accordingly.

The Asus Zenfone 5 Lite, on the other hand, features a 6-inch 18:9 full HD display which is almost identical to a lot of other smartphones present in the market today. This makes up room for a dual front-facing 20 megapixel Sony IMX376 camera which is absolutely incredible for low-light photography.

Other than the changes in the design language, the rest of the specifications are almost the same and it would depend entirely on your design preferences and budget when it comes to choosing the one for you.
