Xiaomi is reportedly going to launch a new smartphone with a dual punch-hole camera. The name of the device has not been disclosed yet. We have just received a patent image from Letsgodigital which suggests the different camera alignments at the front.
On January 29, 2019, a design patent of Bejing Xiaomi Mobile Software was published in the Global Design Database of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). The design patent consists of 24 illustrations of different Xiaomi smartphone models.
All designs show a full-screen display with not one but two cameras under the display. Various sensors have also been placed under the screen, for example, a proximity sensor and a lighting sensor. The front camera is placed in the left and right corners. Differences between the models can be found in the placement and the type of recess that is used. There is also one model where the receiver is placed behind the screen.
In October last year, the Mi Mix 3 was unveiled, this was the first full-screen smartphone from Xiaomi. This phone does not have a notch or a punch-hole camera, this device has a retractable camera.
At the end of last year, there were rumors that there is also a Xiaomi smartphone in development with a punch-hole selfie camera. It is still unknown whether this device will be introduced within the Mi or Redmi series. The premium smartphones are housed at Xiaomi within the Mi-series and for the middle-class smartphones, you can go to the Redmi series.
For the time being, no smartphones have been released in which the receiver and the sensors are placed under the display (apart from the fingerprint sensor). A double selfie camera under the screen is probably used for the first time at the Galaxy S10 Plus, which will appear on the 20th of February 2019. Xiaomi will also be present at MWC 2019 at the end of February, which is why the company will also reveal more news regarding its foldable smartphone.
