The device grabbed a lot of attention of the Android fans, but it also led to a lot of unanswered questions. The durability of the sliding mechanism, for starters, led the potential buyers of the device doubtful as to whether or not they should be investing their money in it.
Now, the company is reportedly looking forward to the next big thing in the Android ecosystem – under-display front cameras. We all have seen the bezels shrink down every single day ever since the concept of bezel-less smartphones have become a reality. It finally boiled down to the much-dreaded notches and we all knew that the days of notches were not going to last long.
As per Letsgodigital, on November 1, 201,8 WIPO has published a patent from Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications. The patent entitled ‘Electronic device and display screen’ describes a full-screen smartphone with a camera under the display.
We can see from the patent images that the device will feature a dual front camera setup. The sensors will also be embedded inside the display.
Oppo provides the display with a flexible polymer layer and a low-frequency sub-display area. This display area is located in the upper part of the screen and can also be used at the bottom. This part of the display has a lower refresh rate. This makes it technically possible to create high-quality images because if the screen continues to refresh, the lens will experience problems.
In addition to the under-display camera, the upcoming Oppo smartphone will also feature an under-display fingerprint scanner which is kind of known already.
