Xiaomi has launched two new budget smartphones dubbed the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6A. Both the smartphones come equipped with an 18:9 aspect ratio display at a pretty compelling price tag.
Xiaomi Redmi 6: Full specifications
Starting off with the Xiaomi Redmi 6, the device sports a 5.45-inch IPS LCD display giving out a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device comes in Platinum Silver Gray, Rose Gold, Bali Blue and Quicksand Gold color variants. Under the hood, we get a 12nm Helio P22 chipset powering the device which is clocked at 2.0 GHz. Coupling the processor is 3GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage which can further be expanded with the help of an external SD card.
At the back, we get a dual camera setup (12MP, 1.25micron pixel size + 5MP). There is a fingerprint scanner at the usual central position like the majority of Xiaomi smartphones. The front camera is a 5MP selfie snapper. Both the front and the back cameras have AI capabilities. The front camera also provides a facial unlock mechanism.
There is a 3,000 mAh battery fueling the device. The device does support quick charging, but the charger which comes packed with the box is not a quick charger in itself. You can, however, use a standard quick charger with the device.
The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 (the MIUI 10 will probably come in the upcoming months) on top of it.
Xiaomi Redmi 6A: Full specifications
The Redmi 6A is a lower-end device. The display is the same as found on the Redmi 6. We get a 5.45-inch IPS LCD panel with the same aspect ratio.
The real difference lies in the power. We get a Helio A22 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage which is expandable.
There is no fingerprint scanner this time around and you would have to rely on the traditional ways of unlocking the device. You can, however, unlock the Redmi 6A using the facial recognition mechanism. Talking about the cameras, the Redmi 6A sports a 13MP rear camera, and a 5MP front camera. The battery is again a 3,000 mAh unit. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Coming to the prices of both the devices, the 32GB variant of the Redmi 6 is priced at 799 Yuan (~$125) while the 64GB variant is kept at 999 Yuan (~$156). The more affordable Redmi 6A carries a price tag of 599 Yuan (~93). The devices will begin selling starting from June 15 in China and we can expect a global release in the subsequent weeks.
