Asus has finally taken the wraps off the Asus ROG gaming smartphone. The event took place on June 6 in Taiwan wherein the device was showcased in all its glory. As of now, the price and the release date of the device have not been revealed. The device comes with a bunch of accessories which would take the functionality of the device to a whole new level. Thanks to PCPOP, we have got some hands-on images of the device and the peripherals as well.
Asus ROG gaming smartphone: Full specifications
Display, Design, and Camera
Starting things off with the display, the Asus ROG gaming smartphone sports a 6-inch AMOLED FHD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a response time of 1ms. The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio, a 108% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and HDR support. The display looks incredibly sharp and crisp which is kind of a must for a gaming-centric smartphone.
At the back, we get a dual camera setup and a ROG logo at the middle which lights up whenever the display is on. The back of the device wreaks of a gaming device. With sharp edges and the backlit logo, the Asus ROG phone is one of the best-looking gaming smartphones released in the current times. The rear camera setup has a 12MP sensor and an 8MP unit. The front of the device sports an 8MP selfie snapper.
In order to remove the heat generated, the charging chip of the device is moved to the power adapter. The device also comes with two linear vibration motors which would provide a realistic tactile feedback during the games played.
Power, Performance, and Peripherals
Under the hood, we get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which is clocked at an overwhelming 2.96GHz. Coupled with the processor is 8GB of RAM and a huge 128GB/512GB of internal storage.
The device has a 4,000 mAh battery which supports ASUS HyperCharge fast charging technology. One interesting thing in the design of the device is that the Asus ROG smartphone makes use of three USB Type-C charging ports – one at the bottom of the device and the other two on the sides. This would make gaming while charging a lot easier. Additionally, the side charging ports also double as connectors for the various accessories launched with the device.
Talking about the peripherals, the first one is the AeroActive Cooler which is a clip-on cooling fan for the device. The fan can be turned on/off from within a dedicated app for the cooler. The next one is the Gamevice Gamepad which makes gaming all the way more immersive (shown in the image above). The third one is the TwinView Pedestal which has a secondary 6-inch display which lets you play the game on one display while controlling it from the other, much like the Nintendo DS.
There is a Mobile Desktop Dock that lets you connect the Asus ROG smartphone with a keyboard, mouse, and other desktop peripherals and use it as a Desktop PC.
The Asus ROG smartphone offers amazing features and specifications. Though there have been a lot of gaming-centric smartphones launched lately, like the Honor Play, Nubia Red Magic, and Xiaomi Black Shark, the ROG takes things on the next level with the additional peripherals and the powerful processor.
