OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3/3T Are Going To Get Face Unlock Feature Soon
Good news for the OnePlus 5 users does not just end with the announcement that their device is soon going to be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.
In a post that Carl Pei shared on the official OnePlus forum, he made it clear that the OnePlus 5 will be getting the Face Unlock feature as part of an upcoming OxygenOS Open Beta update. After the beta tests and the feedback by the users, the feature would be rolled out globally in the form of a global build.
Why did we bring Face Unlock to the OnePlus 5T? We wanted to give our users a quick and convenient alternative to the fingerprint scanner. And it’s become a fan-favorite of the entire OnePlus community. Face Unlock’s appeal was broader than expected! Calls to bring Face Unlock to other OnePlus devices prove this.
We’ve heard your calls to bring Face Unlock to other devices. We’re happy to share that Face Unlock is coming to the OnePlus 5. Since this news got out, we’ve received a ton of comments and questions. So, we would like to take a minute to tell you a little more about our plan to bring Face Unlock to the OnePlus 5.
Face Unlock will first make its way to the OnePlus 5 through an upcoming Open Beta build. Consider it an early test run. We’ll work out any remaining kinks and take time to work through your feedback. Then we will release Face Unlock to OnePlus 5 users worldwide in an Official Release build.

These are pretty strong words which have made it pretty clear that the reports we had got earlier were true. Now, the good thing to notice is the fact that the company has still not forgotten the OnePlus 3 lineup and is still ready to bring in the latest features for those devices as well.
There are, in fact, more than 50 comments posted on the thread already which support the proposed plan of the company to port this feature to the OnePlus 3 lineup which is a promising sign as well.
